Hello everyone,

My aunt has come to Canada as landed (her son sponsored) last month. She is still waiting for her PR card. It is just few days over a month since she landed. The issue is that she needs to go back home for a few months and she needs to leave by the end of this month. Does the PR card come in the mail itself or there is a letter in the mail and the card needs to be picked up from somewhere with signatures etc. ?
Because if the card comes by mail, her son can take it to her back home as he will be visiting in 2 months or so.

Can she leave without worrying about the PR card? And how long does it take for the card to arrive?

Thanks.

According to CIC, PR cards are issued in 63 calendar days to the address you have provided during your landing process. See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp

As far as I know, the PR card arrives by mail and there is no need for a signature. So her son can take it to her. She will need the PR card on her return to Canada.

It comes by Canada Post, no signature required. It can not be forwarded (i.e. if you move and have your mail forwarded, Canada Post won't forward that envelope; it will be returned to CIC). Mine took 73 days to be issued. Not sure how long it took to arrive after it was issued (we were out of town for about two weeks and had a hold on our mail).
