Hi,

Here is the situation for which I need advice from an experienced person or person with knowledge. I sponsored my Parents in 2018 while meeting minimum income threshold for the family size of 3 for the year 2017, 2016 and 2015. its 2020 now and My parents still have not got the PR although medical test has already been done and they passed. Now I am planning to get married and want to sponsor my future wife which will surely increase my family size to 4.

I do not meet the minimum income threshold for the family size of 4 in 2015 and 2016, however my financial situation improved since 2017. So if i sponsor my future wife, will my parents be assessed on 2015, 2016 and 2017 minimum income threshold for family size of 4 or they will be assessed on 2017, 2018 and 2019 minimum income threshold for family size of 4? or they will not be assessed as it's already been 2 years?

Should i wait for my parents PR to come before getting married?

Thanks

Disclosure: I am posting this on behalf of my friend who is looking for answers to make better decision

Yes, getting married will affect the number of family size. It will increase to 4 for the year you get married in. Thus you will need to meet the income requirement for family of 4 from the year you are married until your parents lands as PR.

Thanks for your response. I need further clarification. Does family size of 4 will be considered for PGP application submitted in 2018 too where the minimum income requirement criteria was for 2017, 2016 and 2015 only? In other words, will sponsoring the spouse in 2020 before my parents lands as PR, jeopardize the parents' PR? Please note that since 2017 till today, i meet minimum income requirement for family size of 4.

Actually on that PGP year the income requirement for all years needed to match your current family size.

That's not actually accurate. The accurate answer is "we don't know and need to wait for further information to be published". What you've said was the rule in earlier years. However in the 1-2 most recent years, this was not the rule and income levels for each year were aligned to the number of dependents in that year. So in OP's case, his wife wouldn't be counted until 2020. My expectation is that the Liberals will continue with the rule from last year. But again, we'll need to wait for the rules to be published.
Scylla told me that the rule was changed in the last year or two. The OP applied in 2018. My post was based on the new rule that may have come into effect in 2018. I may be wrong though.

I agree with you but the OP has already applied and got accepted. The family size will increase once the OP gets married. This is no different from having a baby after PGP was submitted. The income requirement will increase from year the OP got married until parents' landing, is it not?

The rules for the year the person applied for PGP may still apply. Rule only changed for PGP2019 based on my recollection. It is not clear whether they would go back and recalculate so yes there is a risk that family size could be recalculated.

Hi All, i got married in 2020 which increased my family size to 4. My question is for 2018 and 2019(when i was single) would they evalute my eligible income against 3?
