Does implied status apply to NAFTA Visa?

Hello,

My boyfriend has applied for a new work permit through the international mobility program, as a professional in the field of graphic design, through nafta. His employer has submitted his offer of employment online through CIC and payed the required fee. ($230) We are waiting on the processing of this application form before he can get an ID number and take this with his documentation to the border to apply for this visa.

Since we've been waiting, Since the application was submitted, the end of his current work visa has passed. We THINK that he has implied status until a decision is made on the application, in which case he could keep working as he has been with the conditions of his previous visa.

However I know that Implied Status is a complicated area, does anyone know if this same process with implied status (while waiting for a decision from CIC) applies to visas through the Interntional Mobility Program (NAFTA?) For Americans, canadian, and mexican citizens?

We THINK that he has implied status until a decision is made on the application, in which case he could keep working as he has been with the conditions of his previous visa.

Implied Status is granted when a person applies for another permit prior to the current permit expiring. From what you've said, it sounds like he hasn't yet applied for the work permit. If that's the case, it means that not only is he not on Implied Status but he is currently in Canada illegally.

Has he submitted a work permit extension app or not?
