I have applied for family sponsorship for my wife; I am in Ontario and she is in New Delhi. We set up a gckey for her application and I was wondering if in case of updates, does CIC send postal mail or email and then subsequent update on the gckey website?

If anyone can also help with the timeline, we applied in September 2015 and it's still in progress. Has anyone here who applied during this time heard anything? Thanks for your help.

Ok thanks! It doesn't say anywhere clearly if they send email or if gckey is the preferred way of them communicating with us. Thanks!

Whether they communicate with you via email or postal mail depends on your initial choices on your applications - most likely email was chosen if you had provided one. CIC has been found to be unreliable in the past - mixing up emails/addresses/preferences.

Also, myCIC isn't reliable either. Your first indication should be any correspondences through emails.

I am also a September 2015 applicant (my wife; not Indian; Singapore VO). You should have had something by now. Did they ask you for more documents lately? Have you ordered your GCMS notes yet?

Thanks for your reply.

In August 2016, they asked for a medical exam again via gckey which we submitted and it now says passed. Is that a good sign in any way?

The interesting thing in the gckey page is this:

Review of eligibility Review in Progress
A background check is needed In Progress

Is there any drawback in ordering GCMS notes? Would it affect my application in any way?

myCIC (not GCKEY <--- that's the technology used to allow you access to various government services) is of very little reliability. It's filled with glitches. Any instructions coming through myCIC however should be given importance to.

If they had asked for a medical, then you are almost at the end (that could be from anywhere from PPR tomorrow to another 6 months).

No drawbacks in ordering GCMS. If I were you, I would order one NOW to get an indication of what's going on and what has actually happened if you have never ordered one before.
