Hello all,

I have recently got acceptance for a PhD program for fall 2018, funded for 20k. But I am currently in US, staying out my first year of OPT. As i will be applying for the visa from US do I need to give some extra proof of my immigration status here? My employment authorization here would be ending on July 24th, which means i would have to leave the country in next 60 days. Would that be a problem if I am applying from US?
What financial support documents should I be presenting owing that I am being funded? Do I still need to show the financials of my parents back in India?
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi,

Yes,you need to show proof of your legal status here. Your visa, copy of passport, and your current I20. You also need a letter from your employer if you are applying before 7/24. I would just explain in a letter what your status will be like after and what you are planning to do.
