Thanks for the reply.

Hmm quiet strange that CIC doesnt have very clear info on doctors and their qualification, what I have been reading for the past, is mostly guess work ;D Except that Bachelor is 20 Points.

Anyways it was a post graduate training course, leading to a degree/diploma from a WHO listed Medical college/University. Would that have some extra points? Although I think that I will make the 67Marks cut, but, I guess its always safe to check first :)

Hey Docs :)

Well I am in the process of gathering docs and gonna apply soon in a week or 2. Got my IETLS result yesterday, so that is 16 Points. Age is 10, Adaptability (wife's academics) probably 5.

OK..I know that the Basic Medicine degree (MBBS) has 20 Points as its considered equivalent to Bachelors. Can anyone tell me what are the points given to Docs with 1 year post graduate qualification from University.

That will make MBBS+Post grad qualification equivalent to Masters, right? Total years of education would amount to 18 years, as MBBS has 5 years. Even if they count it 4 (Bachelor equivalent), 1 year post grad would still make TOTAL years of education 17.

Please can anyone comment.
Thanks
u r qualifed without ur post gradute tarining certificate as u got more thn 67 points so no need of that.by the way if u have 4yrs work expereience ur point is more thn 67---for mbbs 20,for age 10, for ielts 16,for wife masters5,if u got 4 yr work exp 21 u got 72 u only need 67 so dont b late if u dont have 4 yr work exp still u got the pass marks.how many years of work exp u got??

Post graduate training course will award you 0 points ;D
And CIO does have clear info for Doctors in their operation manual 6:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/resources/manuals/op/op06-eng.pdf
Just like casayed said, if you can score 67 without any extra points from PGT then apply ASAP :)

if it is PGT (post graduate training) then it is not equavalant to masters.

If you have masters for ex: Master of surgery (MS) or PHD then you can claim extra points.
Hi Dr Hasib, I had Residency training in General Surgery for 5 years and passed my diplomate exam and eventually became a fellow, but I dont think it was considered as Masters.

Following info is for medical graduates:

Medical doctor degrees are generally first-level university credentials, in the same way that a
Bachelor of Law or a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology is a first level, albeit “professional” degree
and should be awarded 20 points. If it is a second-level degree and if, for example, it belongs to a
Faculty of Graduate Studies, 25 points may be awarded. If a bachelor's credential is a prerequisite to
the credential, but the credential itself is still considered a first-level degree, then 22 points would be
appropriate. It is important to refer to how the local authority responsible for educational institutions
recognizes the credential: i.e., as a first-level or second-level or higher university credential.

Hi Basmalah, I would like to hear your insight about locum tenens. I have been seeing that from US to canada to europe. Do you know how it works?
Dear Carl,
First, sorry for the delay in replying, I just saw your post..
Second, I am ofcourse with every opportunity that would get you in the system (even temporarily), even volunteering would be a good opportunity (if a person can afford not being paid for a while), but unfortunately I don't know exactly about its requirements.. Still, I suggest you contact the access center I have given their website before & register as they offer one to one counseling & answering of all your questions on Skype, on the phone or one to one (whatever you wish for).. I have registered with them & they have recontacted me but I haven't still done the online meeting..

When I speak with them I'll ask them about locums as well & come back with the answers.. :)

Wishing you the best & good luck always..

The International Medical Graduates (IMG) Licensing Process:
In order to satisfy the CPSO requirements for an Independent Practice certificate, IMGs have to take the following steps:

1. Physician Credentials Registry of Canada (PCRC) www.pcrc.org
2. Examinations & Assessments
- Evaluating Exam (MCC EE) required for all IMGs
- Qualifying Exam Part 1 (MCC QE1) optional for CaRMS application
- National Assessment Collaboration Clinical Assessment (NAC OSCE) optional
3. Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) www.carms.ca: Competition for a residency training position
4. Interview, Acceptance and Completion of a residency training position

International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must compete for an Ontario postgraduate residency training position by applying to the Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS). Please note that obtaining a residency training position is a highly competitive process.

To be eligible to apply to CaRMS you must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident. Please visit the CaRMS website at www.carms.ca to review the full list of eligibility requirements.

NAC OSCE for IMGs: When competing for a residency training position, IMGs must decide whether or not to take the PGY1 clinical assessment. The assessment is not mandatory, however some of the program information that is available through CaRMS states that IMGs are highly encouraged or recommended to be assessed.

This assessment was formerly the Comprehensive Clinical Examination (CE1), however as of March 2011 this has been replaced by the National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) which will be administered by the Centre for the Evaluation of Health Professionals Educated Abroad (CEHPEA). The NAC OSCE is a national, standardized examination that tests the knowledge, skills and attitudes essential for entrance into postgraduate training in Canada.

If you have already completed the CEHPEA CE1, please note that it is valid for 3 years. Valid scores can still be used when applying to residency training positions.

To apply for the NAC OSCE you must have passed the MCC Evaluating Examination (MCCEE) and other requirements such as language proficiency listed on CEHPEA’s website. For more information including eligibility requirements and examination dates for the NAC OSCE please visit http://www.cehpea.ca/Examinations/nac_osce.html and http://www.mcc.ca/en/NAC/.
