Hey everyone. I'm new to this are of the forum.

I've recently landed in Toronto with PR and my girlfriend is here with me on a visitor visa. We want to get married so I can sponsor here and live happily ever after in Canada. ;D

For some reason I've had this idea in my mind that in order to apply for sponsorship you NEED to provide proof of minimal income to CIC. We plan on applying for an ousite sponsorship while having her waiting here with me. Do I need to send proof of employment and mininal income in order to apply for her sponsorship?

Where can I find such information? CIC website hasn't been that helpful.

Thanks in advance!

You need to submit proof of employment, but there is no minimum income required. CIC just wants to make sure you will not go on welfare after the PR app is approved. Even with no job/income it's possible to sponsor a spouse with letters of financial support from family members.

Have you and your girlfriend ever lived together (anywhere in the world) for one year or more, before you came to Canada?

Why does it matter? OP said that they want to get married.

Thanks for the reply, guys.

Nope, we've never lived together. We've been dating for over 3 years and want to start our lives here in Canada. Since I already have PR, I want to get her PR so we can start working and she can continue her education here in Toronto.

It would matter, greatly, if the OP had answered yes to that question.

We've seen more than a few cases of a person that had lived with their boyfriend/girlfriend for a year or more, but landed as a single person (when they were really Common-Law)...meaning that they could NEVER sponsor their partner...even after they were married.

Hearing that they have not lived together is good. ;)
