Hey guys,

I decided to leave Canada and go back to my own country, therefore I don't need Canadian citizenship anymore. My question is, can I just go back home and ditch whatever letters I'm going to receive or I have to officially withdraw my application? Will there be any legal problems if I just go home?

After going through all the trouble and effort, you want to throw the towel just like that? Wait for citizenship and then go home.

Exactly... or people who are not sure about it could think it through before submitting their applications — that way the volume of applications would be smaller, IRCC can move faster, other applicants can get their results sooner , everybody wins !

Both are pretty much equivalent...
Failing to go to an appointment twice and giving no reason equals to an abandoned application.

Agree
Wait then till become citizenship so that you have chance whole life to return any time in Canada

My case is different: I am from very poor family I need to live in Canada work hard so that I can help my family . That’s why I applied citizenship and wish I will get soon.

Thanks, the reasoning is something else I don't want to discuss it in this topic, just wanted to know from legal point of view is it going to be problematic for my later visits and stuff, or it would be just fine.

Man ... get that citizenship and go home ! you went all the way to ditch everything now ... it's your life and you know what's best for you but just an advice from my part, you have nothing to lose if you get it and go home

Well you can abandon it by doing nothing, but there's gotta be a way to formally withdraw your application. Either way will raise a flag when you apply for a visa (or PR/citizenship again) in the future. A formal withdrawal should still be better as that shows you're willing to go by the book.

Well when I remember the challenges and ordeals most of us here underwent to secure citizenship and hear this member’s story, it leaves me speechless!
I have a question for this member who wants to withdraw his citizenship application: why did you come to Canada ?
Why didn’t you stay in your homeland ?

The OP is probably from another 1st world country. Circumstances change in life and maybe better opportunities have risen in the home country. In any case, those who immigrate and stay here must have found the life a lot better, otherwise why would we bother, right?

Here's the form to officially request to withdraw your application for citizenship from the CIC website:

https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/ircc/migration/ircc/english/pdf/kits/citizen/cit0027e.pdf

Note that on the form, it says that your request to withdraw can be denied or postponed if your application is currently under investigation for misrepresentation.

Hmm... So there's more benefit to withdraw now - they'll suspect you of misrepresentation if you just abandon your application.

The canadian citizenship doesn't really add anything to Europeans, Americans or Australians who don't want to go back to Canada at all...

If OP is sure he's done with Canada, so be it.

It would obviously have been different had OP been from Cuba, India or Algeria.

Also guys, don't forget, some countries in Europe do not allow dual citizenship, so getting another one will not be ideal for some people.
