I am an approved protected person in Canada, but I have decided that I want to return to my home country permanently.

I would like to understand how a protected person can voluntarily withdraw their status and leave Canada. What is the usual process, and roughly how long does it take once the withdrawal request is submitted?

I am hoping to leave Canada as soon as possible and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through this or has accurate information.

You need to contact CBSA and say you are a protected person and want to leave Canada and are prepared to purchase your own ticket. Does CBSA have your passport?

I am not sure if they have my passport, my passport was submitted in Montreal Ircc office and I am living near Toronto right now.

Yes they will still have your passport. Is it still valid? You need to contact CBSA to get your passport returned and ask them what flights you can book. CBSA will accompany you to the gate and make sure you get on the plane.

Yes, my passport is valid till next year. Should I call the removal line? Do I have to contact IRCC or just CBSA. Thanks so much for your response.

You don’t have an active removal against you but I would try both that line and if CBSA wants you to contact someone else they will let you know. You may want to search possible flight options. Typically CBSA wants you to fly as direct as possible home and with your country carrier if possible. Do not book anything without CBSA’s permission.
