Hello everyone,

My TRV and Study Permit will expire on November 30, 2015. But I already submitted my study permit extension application last month, once I got approved (HOPEFULLY! PRAYING FOR IT!) can I travel to the US just with my new study permit? I read somewhere that US and Canada have NO TRV AGREEMENT. But does that apply to everyone, even from a national of NOT a TRV exempt country like me.

Please if you know anything about this issue pls comment below.

thanks! :D

Yes if you intend coming back to Canada and you are not from a visa exempt country..

Yes, you need a TRV else you will have to continue your schooling by distance learning from the States :)

Hi

Expired temporary resident visa

You can request to return to Canada on your original temporary resident visa, even if it is expired, if:
- you will only visit the U.S. or St. Pierre and Miquelon; and
- you will return to Canada before the end of your approved stay in Canada.

"You will return to Canada before the end of your approved stay" ---> does it mean you must return before your visa expires??

Clearly not, as it is specifically referring to travelling after visa expiry...

Approved stay refers to the validity of a work or study permit.

Hello there. I'm kinda having the similar situation. And I applied my study permit extension on Oct 17th. Haven't gotten any updates yet. How about you? Have you gotten approved yet? Thanks!

I recently travelled to the US and coming back to Canada, I stopped at the border to ask this question. I was told by the border officer that I can travel to US or St. Pierre and Miquelon ONLY with my new study permit and expired TRV. And there won't be any problem coming back to Canada.

So to all of you who are wondering and wanting to travel to the US ONLY (who are from not from a visa exempt country), YOU CAN DEFINITELY DO IT!

Have fun an hope this helps!

:)

Congrats! Hopefulgir08
I got mine as well. Thanks for the update! Then I guess I don't need to apply a new TRV until I get my PGWP.

Congrats jjr_90! Not unless you plan to travel home (if you are not from a visa exempt country). :)
