So I came to Canada when I was 17 as a student. Lived here since (that was 5 years ago) except occasional trips outside the country (less than 1-2 months each). Do I need a police certificate for my application for PR?

I got confused because on their website it says:
You’ll need to get police certificates for you and any of your family members who are 18 years old or older. You need one for every country, other than Canada, where you stayed for more than 6 months in a row in the last 10 years since you were 18 years old.

If they need a PCC for Canada, they will request for RCMP certified criminal record.
