My daughter has 2 years left to study in Buffalo , NY but she needs a car now. She is enrolled in a College and I gather she is considered an International student. Just wondering if she takes her car down there does she have to change her drivers license to an American one and then get American licensce plates and American Insurance as well. When I read the dmv.org website it says if you stay more than 30 days you are are required to do so but my daughter is not really a permanent resident. Can anyone that has gone thru this situation give me some advice. It is much cheaper and easier for her to keep her existing Canadian license and insurance but I don't want to do anything illegal.
Thx for any help,

Just an update. I did a little more research and on this website (dmv.ny.gov/resident.htm) I found that a student is not considered a resident . Therefore I think I'll be ok to keep her Canadian DL and insure her with Canadian insurance on her car.
