Please advise me.

My current job is going to end on Jan. 18, 2013. I have submitted my PR application in November, 2012.

Do I have to leave immediately if my work contract ends? If so, I probably have to make flight arrangement and luggage transportations... My work is contract-based.

Thanks very much.

1. Assuming you have a work permit that expires 18/01/13, you could always apply for an extension as a visitor.

Thank you very much for your relpy. I understand this is a valid option that allows me to get everything ready.

I am just wondering if there exists a period of time that I can stay legally in Canada after my work permit expires.

You have 90 days from the date of expiry of WP to apply for a restoration of status from within Canada. So you can stay upto those 90 days in Canada. If you apply within this 90 day period to restore your status and extend your stay (as a visitor or worker as you may wish), then you can stay legally in Canada until a decision is made on your application.

Below information would be helpful to you:

Thanks for the reply. I guess this is the last option as I read from the link that staying beyond the date of expiration of my status is an offense. I guess I had better apply for a visitor visa.

Thank you again very much for your kind assistance.

Absolutely always better to ensure you do not lose your status than trying to restore it after losing it! Restoration can sometimes be painfully long as I have experienced myself. Also by applying now, you can avoid additional 200$ fees that you need for restoration. So extend your stay as a visitor and if you get a work offer later you can try and pursue it then.
