Do children also need to apply for a Visitor Record?

Hello, I haven't found many answers on this so maybe someone here has an idea.

Me and my 11 year old son traveled from the US to Canada in April. Since then me and my fiancé have gotten married in Canada. My spouse is currently sponsoring myself and his now step son for PR. My understanding is that while the sponsorship is processing, we will both still need to maintain legal status through an extension or visitor record. I've since filled out this application for myself but I'm wondering how I apply for a visitor record for my son, since most of the questions on this application appear geared towards adults.

Does he maintain status if I maintain mine, or do I fill out a second visitor record application for him? Thank you.
