Hi.
I have a confusion related to work experience that can be counted for express entry. In my first job, I worked for 11 months in 2014-15. I couldn't complete 12 months as I went for Post Graduation. After getting over with post graduation, I have been working continuously in a single firm since last 2 years. Can my initial 11 months of work experience be counted? I have read posts saying the first year of work experience should me continuous for 1 year. However, some of them say you must complete atleast 1 continuous year without breaks, that may not be the 1st year itself. Really confused as my points improve a lot by adding this third year. Please tell me whether that can be counted or not.

So, does the first year of work experience really needs to continuous?? Please help me

The "continuous" requirement only applies to the FSW program's "minimum entry requirements" (not the CRS score) and for one year. The rest of the experience (provided it is skilled and within the past 10 years) can be used toward CRS points. All of this information is on the IRCC website.

By "First Year", we don't mean the first year chronologically. In other words, it doesn't mean that your first year of experience in your life needs to be continuous. By "first year", we mean first 1-year minimum to be eligible. Not first year chronologically.

In your case, you have two years with your current employer, PLUS your 11 months. Note however that 2 years and 11 months counts as 2 years only. But if you accumulate 2 years and 1 months with your current job, and then add 11 months from your previous job, that counts as 3 years.

Hello ,
I Have a critical question about gaps in employment

I have 4 months paid full time work ex in Company A (rank 1 training phase 1) jun to october 2014

1.5 month gap

4 months 28 days paid fulltime work ex in Company A ( rank 1 training phase 2)
Dec to may 2015
11 months gap ( promotion exam )

2.9 years full time paid work ex in Company B(rank 2) april 2016- jan 2019
This is foreign work experience.
This work ex is under the same NOC but different ranks
How it will be calculated?

Please help I have already submitted my profile with company B experince and score 440 vut if I would be able to add expeirece of that 8 months work ex in company A it would fetch me 465.

I only have employment letter stating (rank tenure ) and salary slips from company A
And a reference letter from colleague.

You need a letter from your employer that describes your job duties. Supporting evidence in absence of such a letter may be considered, but not guaranteed. If you can produce such a letter or evidence, then the 8 months will be counted.
You need the letter from B also btw.

Great help. Thanks :)

One more doubt. Can I count my 2 month work at an office where I worked in summer vacation during Post Graduation? I had bachelor's degree then. The only thing is that I was pursuing Masters at that time. Can it create any problem?

No, work experience does not count while on a study permit.

None of this is Canadian experience. So, what exactly do you mean by study permit?

Sorry, it was not specified. Ignore that then. So what exactly are you worried about? Why do you think it wouldn't count?

I just thought it might be a problem as it was during my two year master's program. I worked for 2 months during summer vacation. So you think that can be counted right?

On the other hand, my 6 month intership during graduation can't be counted I guess as I wasn't even a graduate then.

Please correct me if I am wrong :p

If we are talking about foreign work experience, if it was skilled work and was paid, you can count it (if you can document it).

Thanks a lot. I have mostly understood what you are saying. Just one doubt still not clear. I was paid during my 6 month internship period in bachelor's as well and I can document it. But I graduated 1.5 year after that. So can I show it as experience even if I was not qualified with a degree at that time?

Just to mention, I am talking about same NOC code here. No glitch in that.
