Hi all,

I just did my landing today. US officers werent very nice, spent an hour sitting there while they were all busy chatting, making plans, talking about their weekend and retirement. Took an hour and i was the only one waiting!

After an hour of waiting he yelled 'come over here!', i assumed he was talking to me since there was no one else, he handed me the refusal slip and told me to go to the canadian border.

Officers at the canadian border were very helpful. It took me 2.5hrs there but its because they had a few clients before me, officer liked to chat with all the applicants lol, and it was a holiday. He confirmed with me if all the information on my COPR is correct, signed it and gave me instructions on what to do next (SIN,health care).

He mentioned that it is better to go to the local CIC office than to go to the border to avoid accidents and deportations. You can face deportation, like 20% of people who go there, because their applications were not completed correctly or if you have falsified information on your application form.

Refusal slip? 20% deportation? Which border was that?

And what do we have to fill up? Isnt the COPR already printed and filled up?

Im planning to go to Niagra to do my landing. A coworker has been nice to take me. But we are going for lunch and maybe alittle shopping over at Buffalo. Will that be a problem? How does the flag pole actually work? Do I tell them Im gonna cross first and eat then come back and land? Is that allowed?

Yes refusal entry, you would go to US border and they will refuse your entry because you dont have a US visa, they will then tell you to go back to Canadian border and show the officers the refusal entry slip and other documents (passport, COPR and work permit). I went to Coutts, Alberta.

You dont have to fill out anything, but the officer at the canadian border will fill out a section on your COPR (their signature and date).

You wouldnt be able to go to Buffalo, US will not let you enter. They could still refuse your entry into Canada based on number of diff factors including falsification of documents. So make sure youve been honest and not have a criminal record. They have sent a guy home because he had an undisclosed DUI. GOodluck ofvgard!

Is it possible I just say Im going to Buffalo for the day and only when Im returning Ill mention to the canadian officers I want to land as well?

The US agent asked about my status in Canada, I told him I just got COPR and I was going to land when I return to Canada.

If you have valid US visa, you can submit the passport in person at Canadian Consulate General in Detroit, it will be returned to you in the same day.

Thats PPR indeed. I suggest you send it right away using xpresspost. I got it back in 12 days. Hope you get it back right away, or delay your vacation. Its up to you to prioratize which is more important to you. Or like previously suggested, fly/drive to detroit and do it in person.

Thanks everyone for the quick reply i just got few more questions,

2. Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF)

Every principal applicant and his/her accompanying spouse/common law partner are required to pay a Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) in the amount of 490 Canadian or American dollars. The RPRF is a separate fee that must be paid in addition to the processing fees that you have already paid.

If you have not already paid the RPRF, it must be submitted in the form of a money order, certified cheque or bank draft payable to the “Canadian Consulate General”. Please write your application number on the back of the certified cheque, money order or bank draft. The RPRF will be refunded if for any reason you do not immigrate to Canada.

Q. Do i have to paid again, i paid the principal applicant fee (CAD $550) in the when i first send my application i paid via by visa card. so is RPRF different than the application fee?

5. Visa and Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5688) Validity

The issuance of your visa(s) cannot be delayed so it is important for you to submit your passport(s) and pay the RPRF as soon as possible, if you have not already done so. An expiration date (dd/mm/yy) will be indicated on your visa and/or on your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR – IMM 5688), and you must obtain permanent residence on or before that date. The visas and CoPR cannot be extended. If you are not prepared to live permanently in Canada immediately after your permanent residence is granted, please consult the CIC website regarding your obligations to retain your status in Canada.

Q. I have no idea what is this for, i cannot even find the form online so if anyone know please let me know.

6. Send your documents to the Canadian Consulate General in Detroit

Your passport(s) and your RPRF payment (if not already paid) must be submitted within the next 30 days to the Consulate General of Canada in Detroit.
Please include a copy of this letter with your submission.
To find out how to send your documents to Detroit, click the following link and read the mailing instructions.

Q. what is the address? i found this on goggle but not really sure
Consulate General of Canada
600 Renaissance Center, Suite 1100
Detroit, MI 48243-1798
Is this the correct address?

Alvin99,

IMM 5688 is CoPR that Detroit consulate will be providing you once you give them your passport. Your details will be printed on a plain paper and you HAVE to show it while landing alongwith your passport.

RPRF fee($490 per adult, for children you don't need to give) has to be paid now and it is different from application fees.

Hope this helps.

Yes, address is correct - I went there for getting my passport stamped earlier this month....

I provided our passports around 8:35AM in the consulate and they told me to collect at 11:30AM.
