Hi all - would really appreciate if anyone either has advice, or can confirm my interpretation of things:

Background: My partner is British, a PR of Canada, has been at university in the UK and is now back in Canada. As a PR, she couldn't begin sponsoring my application to come join her, until she was back in Canada.

Dilemma: Now she is back in Canada, she needs to demonstrate she meets the minimum income levels from a Canadian source in the last 12 months. Or have I interpreted this wrongly? If I haven't, then we can't apply for my PR for another year, until she gets enough build up of income level evidence :-( Any advice appreciated.

Spousal sponsors don't have to meet the LICO, so you are interpreting it wrong (probably looking at the wrong package) Just can be on welfare, except for disability or undischarged bankrupt.

They have to meet a certain income level in Quebec, don't they?

Is that where your sponsor lives?

Thanks for the replies all. My sponsor is in Ontario - on the CIC site, and even the sponsorship application guide, it states my sponsor 'may' be eligible if they demonstrate the minimum income levels, without stating the LICO caveat. This board is the first place I've seen LICO mentioned, and having checked it out it does look like me being the 'common law partner' makes us exempt from the income levels criteria. It's just frustrating that the CIC don't make this clear in their guides - I want to make sure we meet everything set out in their guides, and the one thing I was unsure on seems to be ok, even though it's not explicitly stated by them.
