Deferral of admission. What to do?

Hi!

My visa got approved for Sept 2016, but I got my passport after my college started and hence the College deferred my admission to January, 2017.

Do I have to apply for a new visa?

Can I just show the immigration office at the airport my new admit letter and the visa for Sept,2016?

What should I do?
Please help!
