Congrats Reet All the best for you landing. Just a word of caution, if you plan to bring in valuables from India (assuming you r from there) or your home country in the future , make sure you take pics of the items, bills if you have or a valuation of the current value of the jewelry when you do your landing and submit the same to the officer there. If you do not declare it, you will be taxed later when you bring it in. I did not know this and learnt it as hard lesson.

Thanks a lot for your response. I wasn't aware of the Canada Post mail forwarding services..that's an excellent idea.

However, my problem is not limited to that...I need to give my employers notice and leave on good terms...and everyone is warning me not to let my employers know about my plans of moving unless I complete the entir process by landing.....if I don't get the PPR by end of July I will be screwed...as I have paid for my son's after school care program, security deposit, sold off all my furniture and terminated the lease here....can you and also other members on this forum please advise me what I should do?

Hi Poonam,

Hmm is yours a PNP application, if it is then should not switch provinces until you finish landing. I think the rule is you have to stay in the province that nominated you for a year after your get your PR. Unless you can prove to them that you could not find a job in the province that nominated you are in trouble. Did you write to CPP-O?

Yes you have to take all that. Take your passports and the COPR, bank statements for the last 3 months, sal slips in case they ask, marriage certificate if you are married in case they ask. Then take photos of the jewelry and bills or valuation of the items. There is a form that they will give you to fill out, make sure you ask for it, fill out the details of the items you will be bringing in and the monetary value of the items. If you are bringing in your TV etc then get receipts for that too and show it to them, make sure you keep copies for your reference. Hand over the form to them and they will give you a counter foil for you to keep, so in future when you bring your stuff in you wont have a problem at the customs. I am in canada and landed at the niagara falls, I did not know that this needs to be done, I was told by the officer that its my duty to declare the stuff I bring later, however it needs to be done on the day you land, no exceptions will be made after that. Even if someone tells you, you can do it later dont listen to them because I called CIC up and explained my situation saying that I was not aware of this formality, they told me that they may make an exception for me if I go back to the border ASAP, but no can guarantee that.

I have asked CIC about this obviously not telling thm my file number etc...they told me that there is no obligation as such....my roommate got his passport back and he moved within a week to a different province....he did not change the address nor did he inform CIC about employment etc....he got his landing after moving and I just received his PR card in the mail last week after almost 10 weeks of his landing.....

Don't know seriously what to do as I need to make a move at the latest by August end as my son's schools will start and also he will lose spot at the day care for which I have already paid..plus termination of lease and security deposit...and I really want to move before it gets cold as it is easy to do the running around during summer.

Please suggest what my options would be.

Hi Reet,

If u r not going to bring it in ever then dont bother, but if you think you might bring it in in the future then also you have to fulfill their requirements on the day you land. I did not bring anything in either on the day of landing. I just walked the bridge.

Hi Poonam,

I think you should go ahead and move, keep the mailing address the same as your old one. If cic said there is no such obligation then go ahead. My suggestion is write to cic and get this on email, so that way you have proof incase you are questioned later as to why you moved a province. You've got your PPR mail right?
