Do you need a SIN card to open up a bank account?

As i was hoping to open up a canadian bank account before i land but it you need a SIN card before this then i can't!
Just want to save as much time as possible when i arrive

You dont need SIN for opening the account. You can provide SIN number at later stage even after opening the bank account. Also it takes just a couple of hours to get a SIN number from any canada services office.

my people, pls guide me, i am coming to Calgary enroute Montreal, which means i will do my POINT OF ENTRY FORMALITIES AND POF DECLARATION in Montreal before boarding Calgary's flight 3 hrs later.

I hope this is doable pls, hope I will not be worried again if I get to Calgary for another POE AND POF processes?

kindly guide me before I book pls!

You can open a scotia bank account online now depending on what country you are in. I think its called StartRight.

At Montreal airport, from International arrival, after collecting your baggage, go to the domestic departure. From the domestic departure get the connecting flight to Calgary. When you land at Calgary, you can directly go to baggage collection area. Collect your baggage and get out to catch the taxi or your transportation. No more customs or immigration. You are a free bird!!

Dear Shaun88,
Whether you have to provide a SIN number depends on the banking product you are opening.

You do not need a SIN number to open a Deposit Account (Checking or Saving) in Canada, you might need a residential address in Canada though.

You also do not need to provide the SIN number for a credit product, like a Credit Card, though you can voluntarily provide them with your SIN, the effect of which is usually a higher credit limit.
