Day Count for OHIP

We are US citizens. My husband has had work permits for about a decade. He had lawyers switch it from Quebec to Ontario, where we now live.

The attorneys received the approval yesterday: Permit - WP-EXT / Permis - PT-PROR. It's good for three years. But we, or the attorneys, have not received the actual work permit paper. They said it could take six weeks. My work permit is tied to his, or course, and I'll have to apply for a new one.

We would like to apply for OHIP, and wonder when the "day count" begins? Does it begin with this approval or when we get the actual paper work permit?

One more question: My husband works all over Canada, is this the kind of work permit that accounts for that, or are our day counts limited to Ontario. In one week, last month, he was in BC and then Quebec.

Thanks for your help.

We would be turned down for permanent residency because we are of retirement age. We have homes in the US and will go back when our work permits end, but would prefer to have permanent residency.
