Hi good people,

I received the notice of decision a month after my refugee claim hearing. I don’t remember the exact date when I found the notice of decision in my mailbox.

I am going to apply for citizenship soon. At the physical presence calculator I need to mention the date when I became protected person. I found three different dates on my notice of decision:
  1. Date of hearing
  2. Date of decision and reason
  3. A date when the case officer signed the notice of decision
Among these three dates which one is the date to be mentioned at the physical presence calculator as the date I became protected person?

Your information is highly appreciated and I look forward to hearing from you. Thanking you!

What if Decision is given verbally on hearing day?
Given verbally was only an assurance that your claim was accepted. A legal document to backup the verbal statement, which is the notice of decision would be forwarded to the claimant's address accordingly. Verbal statement is not a proof, and same cannot be presented to prove an individual's legal status in Canada.
