whenever i get really tired of this process i go and start reading other threads from other visa offices (except new delhi of course! lol!), and then i realize we are so lucky that damascus might not be the fastest visa office, but is much faster than most of the visa offices. i was in the islamabad thread today and i saw people were saying they're hoping that their case will be done in 14 months and maybe they're too optimistic to think of it this way!

there is a simple way to decrease the number of applicants in Pakistan and similar countries:

1) ask them if they believe in women's rights to work
2) ask them if they believe in freedom of religion for their children.
3) ask them what would they do if their daughter decides to have a bf.
4) ask them if they believe in Kuran literally (e.g. the section re beating your wives)
5) ask them if they support taliban
6) ask them if they shake hands with non-moslems (like hindo?)
7) ask them if they are ready to kill or die for their beliefs
8) ask them if they like to socialize and integrate with rest of the canadians.

what a pity, currently immigration rules are based on slavery time. that is, they check to see if we are healthy, if we have enough money, if we can work, etc. nobody asks us about the charter of freedom and rights.

My wife and I send each other text messages in Arabic. Now, I am trying to transfer them to my PC. Well, I was able to transfer the messages; however, the text being was not displayed incorrectly (Funny Character - byte code). I am sure I need to install something on my PC. I tried to install the Arabic language on my PC but it doesn’t work. I do have Blackberry bold 9000.

Hello Yaya Marei,

I stayed twice at Ghazal hotel in Damascus (www.ghazalhotel.com). It's cheap, really nice and the owners are 3 brothers.
It cost me 750 syrian pounds for a bed, I guess its a little more for a private room.
It is located in Souq Sarouja close to the old city.

yay i cant go to iran.... its official,the embassy told me if i go i might have to stay for like 3 months for the foreign affairs department to get me out...... so i had to cancel my ticket.. pay a fee and more important than all that accept a crappy birthday present which is not being able to see my wife..... sigh... i am so disappointed that i dont even feel sad.... oh well, anyways, i hope everyone is well, it seems we all had a bad week.... 1 ppr and lots of disappointments :'(

awww I really feel bad for you Sohrab. I really pray that your ppr will be done soon so that your wife can join you . it's really a sad week for all of us. I really had a bad one as welll can't wait for it to be over!!
