Curiosity Question

Hey everyone!

I have a question out of curiosity. If you are in the application process and the applicant or sponsor started to have second thoughts if the relationship could work out, would it be best to cancel the process asap? Or would it be safe to wait for the process to be finished, see if everything works out and if not then break up?

What are the consequences of getting approved and maybe like a year later either the sponsor or applicant is having second thoughts?

If you're the sponsor - cancel. Otherwise you are financially on the hook for the applicant three years after landing. This means if that person goes on social assistance at any point during those three years - you will have to pay it back to the government. This can amount to tens of thousands of dollars.

If you're the application and landing when you're no longer in a relationship - that's misrepresentation and immigration fraud. If CIC somehow finds out, they can revoke PR and even citizenship later.

Okay I understand thank you. Are there any consequences of canceling the application? For example, if the application process isn't finished yet and you cancel it, will that prevent you or cause any issues for either party to sponsor / be sponsored in the future?
