Hi all,

I have a case that I cant find answers to anywhere so I thought to post it here.

I finished my Master in Newfoundland on August 2014. Since then I had 3 years post graduate work permit (till August 2017). My study field was Oil and Gas related; unfortunately, my graduation was at the same time as the 2014 recession and I only managed to work as an engineer for only four months. I then decided to go back to school so I applied for study permit and started my PhD on September 2015 in University of Toronto. At the time I called CIC and asked them what happens if I posses both study permit and work permit and they told me my work permit will remain valid till its expiry date.

On January 2015 I started my personal currency trading by buying my first cryptocurrency (Bitcoin and Ethereum). Ever since I have been trading different cryptocurrencies. Back then these currencies were not regulated and there is no good record of my work except Since end of August 2016 when cryptocurrency exchange markets started becoming more regulated by asking for ID from their users. So far I haven't cashed out any of my earnings and planning to do it at once this April for the whole two or three years and pay its taxes.

I am still an international student and hoping to get my PR. I saw CIC have similar job categories to what I am doing (job code 1113). However, I was not doing my trades for anyone but myself and POTENTIALLY one of my friends. I am wondering if I can use the trading that I have done from January 2015 till August 2017 (when my post grad work permit expired) for express entry or any other categories.

No, you cannot.

Thanks for the reply. Is it "No" because it is cryptocurrency or "No" because I was not employee of a firm?

It is "no" because you are self-employed and such work experience doesn't count under the CEC program.

Hi
I think you are the best person who can answer my question.
I have closed work permit. Can I buy cryptocurrency while having this permit?
