Hi there,
I have an expired PR and planning to cross the border by car. Now someone came to pick me up from JFK airport from montreal by a taxi. is that ok since it is not a private owned car? or is this consdiered public transportation?

A taxi is a commercial vehicle - not a private vehicle. So I think it's risky. Can a friend pick you up in his/her own car?

Alternatively, you can hire a US taxi, get off near the border and cross the border by foot. By foot is considered non-commercial vehicle.

why not rent a car? It'd certainly be much cheaper than a taxi.
