Criteria to get 6 months as a visitor

Hi,

I am French/Australian and I would like to visit Canada for 6 months.

I believe I don't need any visa and that the officer at the border will decide how many months to give me.

What are the criteria that the border officer will consider to give me 6 months ?

Depends entirely on what he thinks about your purpose of visit, your previous travel history, etc. etc. Too many variables to list.

However, the vast majority of genuine visitors will get a six month permit. The default is six months, they only give you less if they find something suspicious.

Their mood that day, the weather, how you present yourself, quality of the Tim Hortons coffee that day if they feel you are a bonafide tourist...….you name it. No set criteria.

Asking specifically for it is a good way not to get it
