Regardless of everyone's opinions here on continuing treatment or not for the high blood pressure what it comes down to is that it's her choice, not the doctors. The doctors are not operating properly. Once your results are submitted I would call CIC with the name of the doctor and report it. Also I think the person who said his wife had a UTI and for this they wouldn't submit the results, should also call and report it. At the minimum CIC can tell these people that they are not Gods.

My experience with doctors was very good and is more an example of what should happen. We went for the routine tests and then in the meeting with the panel physician he told us that there is an image on the chest x ray that is worrysome. He said it could be cancer, an infection, or tuberculosis. He also said that in his experience as a panel physician, if we send the results in as is they will come back and request more tests to find out exactly what it is and so he said it was our choice, he can refer us to a specialist and we can wait to submit until we have a diagnosis, or we can submit right now and do tests later.

To me there was no benefit for us to wait so we held off and had more tests done. This was our choice though and when you're looking at TB and cancer of being 2 options they're both really serious. In the case of the OP....so many things can cause HBP some are serious, some are not. Last night I took my blood pressure not long after I got home from a walk (I'm pregnant and it was very hot and humid out) and the reading was high. Not that it's something that she shouldn't make sure about but bottom line is it's her choice.

yeah when we had issues with our panel physician not wanting to send an electronic file, saying that they weren't signed up for that (but really attempting to scam us) we called the CIC hotline and they said that we should tell them to send the results to them electronically immediately and that if they did not do it then CIC would have to intervene to either help them to set up the new electronic system or to revoke their panel physician designation with CIC (if they were signed up and actually just scamming us). They said either of the options would take a number of weeks so it may be worthwhile to tell them what the course of action would be to see if they would set themselves up on their own and comply. Anyways, when we sent them that information somehow they were all set up and ready!

In terms of your hospital, they wouldn't want to lose their 'panel physician' opportunity as I'm sure it drives business to them so give CIC a call and go from there. As a public health professional I'm thinking that they are not adhering to basic principles on respect for patient autonomy - they've informed you of your wife's condition but you shouldn't be coerced into treatment. Anyways, I understand how things are in some places. Plus I think CIC is more interested in conditions like HIV/AIDs, TB etc as these can constitute threats to the public. It's possible that they may also consider burden on the health care system so if your wife had a costly condition they may consider whether it was worth giving her PR. High blood pressure only becomes an issue if it manifests into something like heart disease - it's more of a risk factor than a condition of concern.

Thanks I will be calling her when she gets up before she goes back to BNH and instruct her to tell them to submit it. Wish me luck we dont have to escalate anything.

No, for spousal PR apps there is no excessive demand/burden criteria to meet, so that would be completely irrelevant in this case.

Wish us luck my wife should be back at BNH.
Called her earlier and asked her to instruct the medical team to submit her medical regardless of their findings and what they prefer to do. Its possible that this was a money grab.If I understood her right, she paid extra for that monitor unit overnight.

Hi all,
My wife went for her medical Saturday in BKK (YAY right? nope another possible set back ), It was found that her blood pressure is high. They tested it several times. She has been given a BP monitor for 24hrs and is going back to the hospital Sunday. She was told that she will not be given "medical clearance to continue the application process unless her BP is shown back to normal levels. We think it may be elevated just due to the stress and nervousness of the tests.

It is my understanding that the medical team does not have the right to deny clearance that it is up to CIC?

Is there a Thai law that exists that if something is found of concern to the medical team that they do not have to upload the results? Is there a Thai law that will prevent us from continuing application for sponsorship due to medical results?

I ask as Thai law can be interpreted and enforced in ways that can make things very difficult to accomplish.
Example: as some of you already know... The Royal Thai Police would not allow my wife to even apply for her police clearance unless I was there at the same time as the application was being done.

Example2: For our marriage we required Thai witnesses, The Registrar of Marriages would not permit non Thai witness even if fluent in Thai.

Needless to say showing through the above examples that things are enforced differently there, Both my wife and I are worried.

Thanks
Chris.

I usually have normal or low blood pressure. On the day of my medical I was kind of nervous and my blood pressure was 150/xx. Never had that before. The doctor didn't say anything and I passed my medical. It's up to CIC if she passes or not. It's not the doctor's decision

This is strange, when I did my medical they didn't even check my blood pressure. They took blood, urine and X-ray. Then I waited 10 minutes and the doctor invited me into his office. We talked a bit, he explained what will happen next (he sends my results to CIC and they will decide if I need further testing).

He tested my sight too, and that was it.

Eight days later I received a letter from CIC for further tests (there was a spot on my lung). I went back to the panel physician and they accessed my file and checked the instructions from CIC. Their instructions were something like this:

1. Submit an X-ray older than 3 months
OR
2. Undergo sputum test and take another X-ray 3 months after the initial date of the eMedical.

We went for option number 2, since I didn't have an old x-ray. The sputum test took 9 weeks to complete (which I did at a different doctor in town - with a referral from the panel physician), just in time for the second X-ray. The CIC panel physician was very nice, he actually opened his practice just for me (CIC instructed them for the second x-ray to take place on January 15 - and they were supposed to be closed that day). He also asked the lung doctor where I did my sputum to take me in right away (they had a waiting list of 2 months for an appointment). He personally called him before I left his office and he told me to hurry up and get there by 4 pm. When I arrived at the lung doctor, they knew already why I was there.

When I ordered my first set of GCMS notes, it showed that my medical exam was assessed on January 24 (9 days after I sent in the sputum results and the second X-ray) and I passed. One other thing, was that my medical is valid till January 24, 2015 (I took my first med exam in October, 2013 - I guess the validity is related to the last x-ray taken).

Good news!!
My wife's medical is complete, and guess what hmmmm after having the BP monitor for 24hrs. Her Blood Pressure is completely normal. what a a surprise after her paying 2000+ more baht for having the monitor over night over and above the standard medical fee.
She told me her BP on Saturday was taken by an electronic machine that she puts her arm in ..hmmm electronic device where its possible to have it set incorrectly to cause false readings. (seems like this was the case here as when it was elevated especially the highest one of 180!! she told them shouldn't I be admitted and put in bed ? lol). She couldn't believe the readings the machine was giving her either, My wife has a medical diploma herself and she did question everything. (I wish I could have been there) Anyway at least its all done now and the results will be submitted by Tuesday.

I had one of these all-in-one machines. You stand on it, fully dressed and it measures your height, weight and blood pressure at the same time. Not accurate at all. All my numbers were different than when I do it at home

File an official complaint to CIC. The hospital is NOT following proper procedures for medical exams. Your situation is done with, but at least it may help to prevent future people going through the same thing.
