hi,

My common law came to Canada for the first time in June 2013. This is the date we put on the forms as original date of entry. He stayed 6 months, left Canada for 2 weeks, return for another 6 months. Left Canada again for 3 months this time, and the last time he entered Canada was Nov 2014. We extended his stay for 1 year so we can have 1 year of continuous cohabitation in order for us to qualify as common-law. In Dec 2015 (1 year and 1 month since his last entry) we applied for sponsorship. We extended his stay again (since the first extension was about to expire in Dec 2015), and we were approved for another extension till Sept 2016. I know that once PR is active, the extension will become annulled.

We got COPR yesterday and I noticed a small mistake on the paper. At the "original date of entry" CIC put the same date as "last date of entry", which is Nov 2014. Shouldn't "original date of entry" be June 2013, the date he first came to Canada? Or maybe CIC considered the date of Nov 2014 as original and as last date of entry because that is the date CIC took into calculation for being allowed to apply as common law.
Should I call CIC and ask if it's a mistake? In a way, I don't want to wait for another COPR to arrive from Paris, just because of this small error. Or should we ask the immigration officer from Niagara when we'll do flagpoling this weekend? Maybe they can correct it, if needed.

Thank you.

When my COPR came in last month there were quite a few mistakes, including my last name, when I flagpoled CBSA fixed all the mistakes at the time of landing.
I think you'll be ok to land with that small mistake! Congrats on COPR!

Your post is a very important one. Please wait for a senior person to answer this question.

i think first date of entry is the date he entered canada and didn't leave. Even though June 2013 may be the "first" entry he had, he left several times between then and Nov 2014. The date of entry doesn't matter on the COPR in my opinion. All that matters is the expiration date and all his personal information is correct.

The same error was on my COPR and I noticed at my landing. The officer changed it to my first ever entry into Canada. They said it might give issues when you retire eventually or when you apply for citizenship. You can always request an amendment via CIC website

Thank you all for your answers. I appreciate your time in replying to my question.

We "landed" at Rainbow Bridge on Saturday (not a pleasant experience, but it's all done now), and the CBSA officer modified the "original date of entry" to the June 2013, which was in reality the first time he entered Canada (the officer just crossed it and wrote beside it, so I assume he modified the date in the system as well).
