Thanks, now here's the tricky question. I have a vehicle that I purchased in Canada, imported to the U.S. and am now returning with it. I know I have to export it from the U.S. and it is exempt from RIV but I never exported it from Canada. Who Knew!!! Can I just go and get it plated in Canada
well that will be a fun one to figure out! how do you know if a car is exempt from RIV? I'm so confused about how to list my car when i'm not importing it upon landing and guaranteeing i won't have to pay taxes on it when i do import it. I know i have to pay the air conditioner fee and some other smaller ones. I just don't want to get hit with ridiculous import taxes. At that point, it would make more sense to sell it. *scratches head*

Just make sure to include your car on your goods to follow list. As for being exempt....cbsa website says The vehicle is exempt from the RIV program if " The vehicle is being imported by former residents of Canada who are bringing back the same vehicle they exported" Ooops, I never exported it. So is it technically still "in Canada"

I have a question about the B4 form..I'm landing August 19th :p ;D I'm bring some jewelry but most of it is fake or play jewelry, nothing real. I don't have to get it appraised or anything do I? I'm a little nervous about landing...

Also...does anyone know in which terminal is the the Immigrant Reception and Information Services (IRIS) kiosk at Pearson Airport? I think that's where you get your sin# right? or is it just the application? I heard some people can get there sin# at the airport.

Thanks..any answers or responds would be most appreciated. :)
No, you don't need to appraise costume jewlery. Just put an approx value on the whole lot and list it together (That's what i plan to do anyway). I don't think the immigration officers aren't too concerned with detailed info. I doubt (and I hear) they don't search your bags and match each item on your form.

Yes, you can actually get your SIN# assigned at the kiosk. I'm not familiar with pearson, so hopefully someone else will chime in. I know zarilenth's husband landed there. She'd probably be able to advise you about it.

I just landed yesterday in Alberta via Coutts/Sweetgrass land border. Everything I own is pretty much already in Canada, so I just listed a lot of things that MAYBE one day I would go back to the USA to grab (old furniture, my ski gear, etc.) The border agent tallied the amount I plan to bring eventually and had me sign it. He then put a sticker bar code on the paper and made a copy of the B4 form. I told him all of the goods listed are "to follow" and I have nothing with me at the moment. He said that's okay. He kept one copy of the paper and gave me the other. He said to keep the paper with me whenever I bring stuff into Canada and at the airport or border, they will check off items as I bring them across. He said nothing has to be brought all at once, and nothing has to be brought ASAP (no time limit to the B4 form).

Thanks for your response...that's good news...I'm excited to land but I'm praying everything goes by smoothly..I was looking at this older post.. (http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/form-b4-goods-to-followaccompanying-list-how-to-t44793.0.html) they seemed real detailed but maybe things have changed since then..

a) that post is from 2010 and b) that person sounds like a type A neurotic that enjoys creating spreadsheets. :)

based on what othrs have said about RECENT landings, the agents are not that thorough. you will be fine! i understand the butterflies... i won't stop stressing until i land successfully!

my wife will be wearing her wedding band and engagement ring when she lands, does she have to declare this on the B4 form? Do we have to take pictures of everything and give them a copy?
