She can extend her stay as a visitor while waiting for her OWP and in theroy she has implied status once she applied for OWP. But most suggested to extend her visitor status because in case the application is sent back, she would risk being out of status.
Before COVID, OWP wait was 4 months.
1. How long does it take to extend the stay, how far along into the 6 months should we apply to extend it?
2. How do you extend a stay? Go to a government building or mail in a form?
3. How long is the wait time now for open work permit?
4. Do we have to be married for her to get an open work permit?
Thank you

I can only asnwer 1 of you questions.
4. You have to be married or become common law to apply to sponsor her as a spouse inland. And that's when you can send in the OWP application at the same time.

1. It takes a number of months. Submit the extension a few weeks before the six months ends.
2. Apply online.
3. Around 6 months right now.
4. You must be common law or married and have to submit the open work permit together with the spousal sponsorship application (after you are married or have lived together for a year to become common law).

He most likely will stay in the US.
Thought of a few more questions if you dont mind.
Considering we get married this june
1. Is it best for her to apply for the work permit while she is here on vacation and then stay and wait? Or does she go back and wait?
2. Does she have to stay here for the 12 months for applying for permanent residence? Or do we apply and she goes back and wait?
3. In terms of her losing her US green card, if she stays longer than 6months in canada I read she may lose her permanent residence status. If this happens does this mean she's without a country while waiting on the Canada approval?
4. Is it best for her to voluntarily give up the US green card?
5. If she gives up the green card can she still go back to visit her son? If so can she only do that after she gets the Canadian permanent resident card?
6. what would you recommend? I know tough question.

Thank you
in regard to the us green card yes there is a chance that if she stays out of the us too long they may question why the absence and what the intentions are. In the us green card holders can only be outside of the country for a year before being required to seek a reentry permit. inland might not be your best option if your spouse wants to keep us status. US has citizenship based taxation this may not be a thought now but something to consider if your spouse plans on being naturalized they will pay us taxes for the rest of their life as long as they hold on to that citizenship.

If she came here with the idea of staying (getting married and waiting here during the PR process) what is the best way to get her money into Canada during her initial visit? Say $75,000 US
Thanks
