Confused! difference between principle applicant and spouse?

Hello,

I want to sponsor my wife for PR status within Canada. I am filling out the forms.

I get it I am the sponsor and she is the spouse but who is the principle applicant? Is my spouse the principle applicant?

Please clarify...

That is correct. Your wife is the Principal Applicant and she's also your spouse ;D
