Hi All,

I'm in Canada, preparing my application for the Australian Federal Police to obtain the required police check. I must include traditional ink-roll fingerprints. I've never had fingerprints taken, so I'm getting these done here in Canada. Most of the local providers seem to state that ink-roll prints will take minimum 120 days to process.

Has anyone had ink-roll prints taken in Canada? What was the process? Is the 120 days processing time only relevant where a RCMP check is required? Will they provide the prints directly to somebody like me, who does not require a RCMP check but needs to send the prints internationally? And will this still take 120 days?

So very confused...any insight from experienced forum members would be very much appreciated!

Many Thanks,
Kay

here is a useful link for you

Thank you for the information. I do appreciate it. However, the fingerprints are for an Australian Police Check, not RCMP. I only need the fingerprints done here in Canada as I am currently located here. So I'm confused about whether the prints will be released to me straight away, as I do not require a RCMP check.

For anyone visiting this thread for information in future: Australian Police have confirmed that yes, they will accept scanned/digital fingerprints for the AFP check.

Hi misskay,

I'm about to request my AFP police cert now and wanted to see if you could share a bit more about what you know.

How does one submit the digital fingerprint with the application? I've been trying to call the AFP line but I always get cutoff while I am on hold.

Also, is everybody certain we need the fingerprint check? The CIC website seems to say you only need a "standard disclosure - name check", yet from all reports people say that the fingerprint check is required.

Anybody have any success without the fingerprint check? (I'm trying to avoid it because I JUST went and got my prints taken for the FBI check and would hate to have to go get another copy)

Hi misskay, not sure if you still need this information... I did my ink-roll fingerprints in Toronto at a private fingerprinting agency. They have offices in other cities. I'm going to send you a personal message about their website anyway.

My husband had his fingerprints ink rolled at a private company in Calgary and the AFP were fine with that. From what I understand reading another thread today, fingerprints are no longer required.

For anyone referencing this thread in future - I read elsewhere that the requirements for Australian applicants did actually change for 2012. The standard name check is now sufficient & fingerprints are no longer required.

You can always see the current requirements for police certificates for CIC at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/asia-pacific/australia.asp

Hi Misskay,

Can you give any info on where you read that the requirements for Australian police certs changed and that fingerprints are no longer required?

Thanks
