Confused about extension application

When entering Canada I was pulled into immigration and given only a 2 month stay instead of 6. I have no record in the US ( I am a US citizen) and my boyfriend is a model Canadian citizen with no record either. I had recently moved from TN to NY to live with my son and daughter in law and to be closer to him and decided we wanted to explore our relationship further (met him online in April, in person in Aug and instantly fell in love) so I decided to come and visit and try to see where this would go. With that background information the question I am asking is I am filling out the extension application and am looking for

"what is the best answer to give for my reason for wanting to stay in Canada?"

I do not want to be denied. We are very much in love, he has lupus and we do plan on one day getting married but just not now. We know that our time may be short because of his lupus and do not want to waste a moment apart. I do go back to my sons every other week or so to visit him and my granddaughter but they said that was not a permanent residence at the immigration station. It is to me, even though I sleep on the couch when I am there. They said a couch is not permanent. How can I prove that that is my permanent residence with no bills in my name there?

So, with all that said....what would be the best reason to put to stay? I have heard "to explore my relationship further with my boyfriend" but is that enough????

By the way...we are both in our 40 and not spring chicks that don't know what love is!

I have to have this application sent out before the 24th of November as they want me OUT by December 24th..Great Christmas present huh?

Thank you in advance for any and all help in this matter.

There were posts from members who had "successful" extension applications and placed precisely, exploring relationship as the reason.

You need to tell them why you want to "extend your visit" not "stay in Canada", they still have to know that you will leave.

The good news is that when you apply for the extension you will be under "implied status", so you can stay until a decision is made.
If you submit your paperwork via a courier you have proof of submission, processing time was about 90 days the last time I looked.

So being here for Christmas should be OK.

I want to thank both of you for replying.
I just wanted to clarify about the "exploring relationship with my boyfriend". This has been so very stressful for both of us. I meant to say "extend my visit" and not "stay in Canada".

As far as the "implied status" even though I was told to go to the border on the 24th and leave via someone escorting me out of the country...I do not have to do that? or should I go and show them I have applied for an extension as proof? I do not want to do anything to jeopardize relations between the border and myself as I do cross quite a bit to see my son, daughter in law and grand baby.

Also, would it help if my boyfriend sends a letter of support? Because he is allowing me to stay with him rent free and he is basicly supporting me with food. I do have an income but it is limited. Just wondering if his letter of support would help?

How long do you intend to stay in Canada, six months?

I would call CIC to ask about the need to go to the border - be aware the help line staff are not perfect, many people have had conflicting information from them in the past.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand it you can apply to extend the visitor record that I assume you have.
Did they issue a visitor record to you?

I always have my wife write about the fact she is supporting me and I contribute as best as I can.
Make sure you send the application by courier so you get proof of delivery.

It seems like you need more proof that you will leave Canada.
You have to remember that you are a "visitor", and CIC need you to meet all the conditions that allow the visitor status.

Have you read the CIC web site information for visitors?

Well just have to say that when I handed in my visitor record no one escorted me out of the country. As a matter of fact I was asking questions and the IO looked bored with the fact that he had to answer them. I will say that since handing in my letter I have been denied twice at the border so caution you if you leave and then plan on coming back after the holidays.
The last time I went I came with proof of support and joint accounts but the fact that I live with my aging parents did not fly with the IO and I sleep in my own room lol and not a couch.
Call the CIC but also call a border crossing. That is generally where you get the best info straight from one of their mouths. You do not have to give your name and they actually are pretty pleasant over the phone lol!

Yes I intend to state I want to visit for the full 6 months and yes they put that piece of paper in my passport that states I have to go to the border and be escorted out on or by Dec 24th.

So my boyfriend writing a letter of support might help? I do contribute as much as I can to the household.

I don't know what to do to convince them that my visit is just that...a visit and that I do have a permanent place to stay if things do not work out here and my boyfriend and I do not get married. This is why I want to stay another 6 months to "explore our relationship" . Yes I have read everything I can get my hands on as far as visiting status...on the CIC site and off. I have spent countless hours online researching this. This forum is my last hope.

And thank you Patricksgirls...I will be calling to find out if in fact I have to go out of country even though I have or am applying for an extension.

Ok, another question...sorry.
I am going to be filling out the application this afternoon. Am thinking about doing it online but do I need to send in anything else with the application (passport, documents of any kind, letter from boyfriend). If so, how would I go about doing that if i am going to be submitting it online? Or would it just be better to have it sent by courier?

Yes, whatever documents are asked for on the checklist, for the mailed in application should also be attached to the online application. You need to attach the "bio"page of your passport, whatever stamped/marked page on it when you entered Canada, and a copy of the VR that was given to you. Also, the receipt of payment has to included with the "package".

What can I use for proof? I do not pay any bills at my son's apt and most of the bills that i do get still have a forwarding address label on them as I just "ran" out of TN away from an abusive situation.

Also a letter from your boyfriend that you are staying at his house and is responsible for your board and lodging, medical expenses and fare back home should the need arises, might help. Attach a copy of his status in Canada, an ID or copy of his passport

Thanks for that information but what do you mean by his "status" in Canada?
