Hi all,

I have browsed and searched for past topics but didn't identify any specific thread to address this question.

I am a Canadian citizen married to a Chinese husband and we both reside in China currently. I submitted the sponsorship application in April, at the time of submission, we haven't been married for over 2 years so the conditional PR term would apply to me. My latest status is the acknowledgement of receipt email from Beijing consulate.

I am 6 months into pregnancy and due in December. Although the application package mentioned that under the case of 'birth of a child' we should notify them, I am wondering how would this alter the situation. Would it be possible for them to lift the conditional PR requirement for my husband?

Also, does anyone know that whether the 2 year conditional PR time can be counted towards the citizenship requirement time (3 years)?

Your insight would be greatly appreciated.

No, because CIC basis this on the date that they received your application. This is, in essence, your `locked-in date'.

I believe that the conditional PR will count towards the citizenship requirement, but it is now longer than 3 years (or soon will be).

To the best of my knowledge whether someone falls under conditional PR is locked in at the time their application is received. So I don't think it's going to be possible to change this condition for your husband.

Yes - you can certainly count any time spent living in Canada during the conditional period towards citizenship. Note that the citizenship requirement is increasing to 4 out of 6 years next year.
