Company benefits for conjugal sponsorship

  1. Looks like my conjugal family class sponsorship is moving along. I recently had a conversation with my HR director about our companies "life changing events" where you can add a spouse etc etc after getting married. I enquired about how that process works with Conjugal partnerships. Her first impression (although she is checking with our benefits provider Sunlife) that we would have to cohabitate for a year in a common law before we could enroll her.

    I am curious what other peoples experience has been in enrolling a conjugal PA after they arrive and receive their OHIP (in Ontario) after the mandatory 3 month period...

  2. Unlikely. Conjugal is a special situation recognized by IRCC. It isn't even something that is recognized in other government agencies. For example, you will both be single when filing your taxes with CRS until you marry or become common-law.
