Hi everyone,

I, the principial applicant, am trying to apply for PR under common-law class, with my girlfriend being the sponsor. I came to Canada to study at U of T and right now I am on a post-graduate-work-permit now which will expire 3 years. I am totally able to support myself (I have two part-time jobs at the moment) and do not need her help financially.

On the doc checklist, they ask for proof of support by the sponsor and my question is, can I just show them that I can support myself?
If no, then my girlfriend is a student and does not work. She gets support from her dad (who lives in a different country) and her mom (who lives with us and provides food, etc.). She also receives OSAP since she is a student at U of T.
How can I show that she can support me? Do we need to go to notary with her mom and sign a letter or something?
thanks so much!

Anyone please?
Hi, your girlfriend will have to write a letter with detailed explanation on how she plans supporting you. She can include a letter from her mother stating that she is willing to help you guys out until you get on your feet( such as food, free housing etc), you can also show any savings that you both have, your employment details and proofs that you are currently working in Canada and how much money you make to show that you will be able to support yourself. But she’ll have to describe it all in her letter and attach all the proofs that you can get such as a letter from her mother and your employment details.
