Hello,
We are a couple (common-law relationship) that is planning to apply for PR under the CEC program.
We have both gained more than one year of work experience in occupations that are at the NOC Level B and also meet all the other requirements.

Our concerns are:
- Can we apply as a two independent applicants? I mean filling out two full applications, one for me and one for my partner.
Does it have any disadvantage compared to one application and two family members in it?

- Thinking about one application for both of us.
Could the person that is not the main applicant get a BOWP?
At the end of the procedure, would we have both of us PR status?

In both scenarios we will provide with all the information about our common-law relationship, but in the first option the number of family member will be 1 and in the second option it will be 2. What do you recommend me?

Please I need all your insight.

Thanks,

Work out who would be the best applicant and do it under one application with one of you as common law. Applying separately means two medicals, two language tests, two processing times etc etc.
keep it simple.

We know that one application will be much easier for us but our doubts are:
Could the person that is not the main applicant get a BOWP?
At the end of the procedure, would we have both of us PR status at the same time?

does it have any inconvenient sending out two applications independently?

Thanks again,

Main applicant gets BOWP, dependent gets owp so no issues there
You'd both get pr at same time, unless there is an issue. There may be a few days delay on COPR etc but it's minor

That is not an option. Your (common-law) spouse must be included on the application. But you can submit two applications, both apply as principal applicants. But each application would be for 2 family members.

As for BOWP - only the principal applicant becomes eligible for the BOWP. But the spouse is eligible for the spousal open work permit, based on the BOWP. So it's not a problem.
