I am having trouble about the 1 year working experience requirements.

I have at least 12 months of full-time skilled work experience in Canada.
I graduated and I am working full-time(40 hours a week), Contract based position for 1 year. and the job falls under co-op program in the company instead of an independent contractor program.

I am wondering does this experience count towards the 1-year requirement? My confusion is although the program is co-op but I already graduated and getting this experience under my worker visa, does that count as full-time working experience?

Thanks a lot

Hi there, not sure how you get a co-op job after you graduate from school? Could you please provide more details?

Based on my understanding, a co-op job in Canada is basically a student job. You have to be enrolled in the co-op program in the university in order to find a co-op job. No matter which company you work for, you employer is actually your SCHOOL. In this case, you co-op job is required by your program, which does not count as work experience. It indicated clearly by CIC or OINP that a co-op placement does not count for work experience.

Thank you for replying Eugenie2016.

I got a job through Agency and I already graduated from school. Right now I am on work permit and it is 1 year contract based CO-OP IT specialist position. As far as I know as a student if i will get CO-OP I know CEC will not consider my work experience but I am not in school since 1 year. I am a worker and got this position after graduating school.

So many confusion going on right now. There is nothing written on website if we will get coop position after graduation (on worker visa). Only written is While studying does not count.
