Hello

My husband is from Japan and he entered Canada as a visitor on Dec 26th 2016. His visitor visa is valid for 6 months. That means his visitor visa will expire sometime in June. We have sent in our immigration application and it is now being processed as of May 11th, 2017. So from here on it's going to take 12 months according to the website for processing times.

My question is, do we have to keep extending his visitor visa until he gets approved for PR? or does he already have implied status since they are now processing our application? And how long does he have with the implied status?

If you applied outland yes you have to keep applying for extensions.

If you applied inland with OWP the OWP gives you status.

You are on implied status as soon as they acknowledge they've recieved an extension application.
