For those who have taken the citizenship test. please tell me how hard it is and on an average for how much time did you spend studying for it ? Is two weeks enough time, how many hours would you recommend studying for it per day ?

please tell me how hard was the actual test ? did they ask dates and names of certain heroes or was it just standard easy stuff that one would know just by living in Canada for X number of years ?

There are 4 sets of question papers in different colors distribute among the applicants. Each set has a different set of questions. There was no Date specific questions in my set, I don't know about other 3 sets.

I studied about a week straight, maybe 30+ minutes each day. I was well prepared as a result - I finished the test in under 2 minutes and got 20/20.

Even though there are a lot of facts to remember, because the test is multiple choice it makes it much easier. Usually one of the four choices is clearly silly and another is fairly obvious that it is not the right choice.

I do admit that maybe it was easier for me than others because I had lived in Canada for over 13 years when I took the test so I was quote familiar with much of the material to begin with. But there were still many fine details that I learned during my study.

Hi
Same for me. After more than 14 years listening to the radio and reading newspapers some things were familiar.
I read the book which I order a paper copy. Download some applications to practice while on the bus or traveling for about 1 month maybe three times a week for 1 hour. Listen to audio book. Read and saw videos in link citizenshipcounts.ca Did some flash cards too. I was well prepared as a result - I finished the test in under 2 minutes and 20/20. Maybe too much work but I am not a quick learner.

On the other hand my teen did noy to study much... did not read all the book (claiming high school history is all she needed). Did not take it seriously
Result first test failed. She said it was difficult (if you do not read the material of course). Second time I studied with her following the book and citizenship counts material (for 2 weeks 1 or 2 hours per day). Result test passed 20/20. She said it was easy and finished in two minutes.

We are all different and learn on a different way (visual, auditory, writing) also we have jobs or schedules that are different. Look what works best for you...

At the end.. take it seriously and make sure you at least read the whole book.

Good luck.

Read the study guide twice and do practice questions from Richmondhill library you should be fine. It takes about 3 hours to go through the book. About 25 mins for the test. It has about 150 questions.

I agree with the others who suggest reading it at least a couple times. The test was easier than practice tests you find online, but there were a few things that I wouldn't have known without studying (and wouldn't have retained without the reinforcement of the practice tests). The test was by no means hard, but does not contain only information that one gains by living here.

Thanks for sharing your experience all.
Would someone please help me locating the 150 practice test that most of you talked about? Where can I find it?

Both myself and grade 11 son only read the night before the test and we both got 20/20 and both finished in about 2 mins. But mind you, I am a more involved mom in school work, and since i helped my kids in history, things were not new to me.
Read the discover canada book only one, don't try to memorise dates, and just continue to do the practice questions.
The test is simpler than the practice tests, so you will be very prepared.
All the best to you in the test.
