IELTS Request
submitted with application
Hello

We applied for citizenship in 2019 and received our oath ceremony for March 2020.

Due to COVID19 virus it got cancelled and no update since then. Our PR is about to expire in August 2020.

Today we got hold of CIC customer number and she confirmed that online oath is being done currently. She could not tell by when our turn will come up and asked us to submit urgent process request. I did submit the request. She also confirmed that renew PR will also take long time (min 140 days).

I need help with below questions.

1. Myself and my wife are full time working. If oath does not happen and our PR card expire, will it impact our employment. Is there any alternative approach I should take.
2. Currently I am in the market to buy our first home. Again with no status, will have any impact. My fear is I do not want to end up giving deposit and later realize that bank has rejected our mortgage due to status.

Any suggestion/advice in our current situation is highly appreciated.

Regards,

1.No
2. Pr card expiration has nothing to do with your pr status. Even with an expire pr card you are still a pr and you still have a valid status.
If your home country passport expires it does not mean that you are not a citizen of your country anymore, the same logic applies to your pr status.

Das67 is correct on both questions. You only need the PR card for re-entry to prove your status to the Canadian border agents.
