Hello there,

This is my first time posting here and I have a couple questions regarding my wife and I's application for her permanent residency.

We had applied for an Outside of Canada Spousal Application and my wife is concerned that if/when our application is accepted they will send all the paperwork back to her home in Japan. However, she is currently residing here with me in Canada, so if they send the paperwork there we would have no knowledge of it being sent. Our question is how likely is it that the CIC will send our paperwork to her Japanese address without notifying either of us by email?

Secondly, we mailed our application package in mid-November and when I tried to check the application status online it came out as an error. Should I be concerned about this?

Thanks so much in advance for any help you guys could provide :D

-Josh

Hi Josh,

When you say `paperwork', what exactly are you referring to?

Generally, the only thing that is received by snail mail, is her CoPR (Confirmation of Permanent Resident) document that is issued AFTER the principal applicant is approved for PR. Everything else [generally] comes via email.

She should contact CIC to let them know about her address change.

if you applied in November, then you probably still won't be able to check the online system. Receipt numbers don't work. the only information that works are the file number and UCI# of the sponsor and applicant. Right now, CIC just started processing november applications, so i would recommend checking in with the november thread to get an idea of when the sponsor should be hearing something. For outland, the first stage is sponsor approval which means the sponsor will receive communication. This seems to have been sent by regular mail lately, even though it's normally email. For most people the online system doesn't start working until AFTER sponsor approval, so the fact you can't sign in means nothing.

The applicant (your wife) will most likely receive any communication from the visa office by email. there will be months of silence where she hears nothing, then when they start processing her application she will receive her passport request (or request for more information). the request will most likely be through email. her approval paper will be mailed to the address she used in her application, so if she used her home address that will be where it's sent. if she used your address, it will be sent there. she can certainly change her address with CIC to yours so it goes to where she will be. She won't be able to do this until AFTER you are approved as a sponsor and she is given information about how to contact her visa office. GEnerally, you can't change an out of canada address online or over the phone, the request must be sent directly to the visa office. since you have not received sponsor approval yet, it is too early for her to do this. at this point all you can do is sit tight and wait to hear from cic.

I would email or call Warsaw to see what's going on with your application as soon as you can. If they aren't helpful, have the sponsor call their MP.

Mistake when trying to log onto ECAS:
1.It happened to me once but I found it was caused by that I chose one identification type, but filled in the number of another identification...

2.It also can be caused by filling in full name instead of family name.
