The best I have found was TD insurance. Try giving them a call and see if you could get something below 200. Mine was around $180 for mid-town.
how old was your G license when you got this rate, and did you have any driving training certificate. What was the make, model and year of your car. I have heard most of the people saying that they didn't have a good experience with TD.

I'm in ottawa, and I ended up going with Aviva Insurance. They were the best rate available. My driving record and recent insurance claim made it difficult for me to get insurance in ontario. the big companies wouldn't insure me and the high risk insurance company was 3 x's the price. I'm paying about $103/mo, and they quoted my canadian husband at $70ish/month.

Wow. That is awesome. Good for you!

yes, the effort to achieve this was not without blood, sweat and tears (ok, maybe not blood - more like screams and meltdowns). 2 or more "at fault" claims within a certain period of time and you're royally screwed in ontario! so glad to finally find some place with a rate i can actually afford and didn't consider a measly small claim under $200 as "at fault"! it was a nightmare experience for me.

Try Jevco Insurance or go to a broker. They can get you good deals.

you're out of luck mate. There IS no such thing as 'cheap car insurance in toronto for newcomers'. Non-existent. Ditch the car and move to somewhere within the city with a walk score of 90+, or to another province if you want cheaper insurance. You can't both live in Toronto AND have cheaper insurance, both these things are mutually exclusive.

On the other hand, do you have any insurance history from other countries? You can try providing any such documents to lower your quote. Works in other provinces, should work in Ontario.

I totally agree especially with getting your previous insurance documents from any other company outside Canada. It worked for my cousin few months ago and i guess it will work for you too.

Zipcar, Modo, I think Toronto has a lot of car co-ops. You can also join loyalty programs of rental companies like Avis. However, these won't build your no-claims bonus or insurance history.

Yes, I know Toronto's version of expensive insurance means "$500+". For academic purposes, I checked out my quote for Toronto online and it too came to around $500+, in BC I pay $200/month for an '04 Acura (still expensive in my opinion) - but that's quite a difference of almost $300 per month. I was told the reason for this is the high insurance claim value in Ontario, and probably the higher number of road accidents?

@ Emamabd - no claims insurance certificates from third world countries (do you mean Pakistan?) will count as well, as long as they can be verified back by the company.

if $200 per month will still be expensive for you in BC what about other places where you pay even 3 x more. Not just in Toronto

I'm driving 2012 Cadillac SUV and yes, I had driving training certificate with me. That was my first full G year license

Folks - be careful when dealing with All-State insurance in Canada. You cannot trust the information provided by their call center. In my case, when they discovered the errors made by their customer service rep, all they did was say - you are right, we are sorry, - but they did nothing to help me. Acting on the incorrect advice I received is going to cost me $4500 in increased premiums, and I have no recourse but to warn the public. I hope this does not happen to you.

I got $182.11/month for my Chevvy SUV 2013 from FSB (first insurance brokers) in Toronto. I am a new driver with the recent G2. Is it a good price?

you should be doing somersaults, that is an excellent rate

is that comprehensive coverage? or third party liability only?

In my experience, car insurance all over Ontario isn't as high as in GTA. I've been a customer of TD Meloche Monnex for last 6.5 years. I've owned a beamer before and now own an Infiniti coupe and a Ford SUV.

I started my auto insurance with $145/mo (G2) back in my student life in Windsor. It was always under $140 during moving from Windsor to Sarnia and then Sarnia to Toronto. Now, I'm back in Sarnia for last 3 years and pay ~$200 for 2 vehicles (incl. wife with G2) bundled with home insurance. FYI, I maintain a claim-free record.
