As of April 30th there has been CHC closure all over the world due to budget cuts and CHC Dhaka is one of them. CHC Dhaka website gives the following message "the Visa and Immigration Section at the Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh (Dhaka) is closed and services have been transferred to the Canadian High Commission in Singapore (Singapore)" My question is that I submitted my passport to CHC Dhaka on 17th April after receiving PPR request. I am supposed to collect it back from CHC Dhaka but after the closure what is the process ??Does anyone know or are in a similar situation ??

I am also a victim of this. May be they will send back our pps via vfs. Insha Allah we all shall receive our pps back safely and stumped with visa. Stay tuned

I am on the same boat, but the CHC lady said I would receive a letter from their office (indicating CHC) within 8 weeks. Mind you this happened on the 29th of April - 1 day before the change is suppose to take effect.

Hopefully they will finish off giving the passports they have in their hands! I am not sure about how seriously VFS will prioritize our passports and nor am I interested to find out!

you'll collect it back from CHC Dhaka. Only processing is shifted, not the visa stamping.

Thanks Sir Williams! :) I feel relieved - one less headache in the waiting game.

Sir william the thing is for Bangladesh nationals even before the closure the visa stamping was done in Singapore. But CHC Dhaka collected the passport and sent it to singapore on our behalf and after the visa was stamped by singapore they would return it to CHC Dhaka from where we would collect it. But now don't know what the process is. I guess more tension again. It will not be over till I land and have the PR card in my hand.

From my personal understanding of the announcement - it is mainly targeting the "Visit Visa" section for Bangladesh as our immigration has always been taken care by the Singapore VO. I think DHAKA CHC will remain the media for collecting your passport for immigration in BD. So dont worry about it! :)

I wrote to Sing VO today regarding this issue and they said that the CHC Dhaka immig and visa section is closed and passports wont be returned to Dhaka. They will return all passports by mail. If we want them to return passport by courier then we should send a prepaid courier envelope to them. I spoke with Fedex today to ask them if they have a prepaid envelope which I can send to Sing but they said no. I guess I will just have to trust regular mail.

That does not make sense. We had selected "in person" for a reason! Can you share their reply in full here? I think we should call CHC in Dhaka to reconfirm.

Anyone please can update us on this topic?
@calvinh - would appreciate if you could copy and paste the exact communication you have received from SVO!

Thanks all!

mzr below is the email i received

Thank you for submitting your passport for issuance of your permanent resident visa. We have now issued your visa and your passport are now ready to be returned to you.

In our previous correspondence with you, you were advised that your passport would be available for pick-up at the High Commission of Canada in Dhaka. However, the Immigration Section of the High Commission of Canada in Dhaka is now closed. Therefore, it is no longer possible to deliver your passport to you through this method. Our office will return your passport to you by registered mail on Monday, May 7, 2012 at the following address:
XXXXXXXX.

If the option to receive the passport by registered mail is not suitable for you, then please advise our office before the date noted above for delivery by registered mail. If you prefer to receive your passport by courier, please send a prepaid courier envelope that is large enough to hold your passport. Please note that our office will not cover the costs associated with delivery of passport by courier. If our office does not receive a response from you by Monday, May 7, 2012, we will proceed with delivery of your passport by registered mail.

Please note that your visa expires on XXXXXXXX, so you must land in Canada before the expiry date.

Same thins they have done with malaysia...they shifted immigration services to singapore.. >:( :(

They must cut the cost to recover the deficits in their upcoming budget.
They will further cut cost in 2013. Canada can no longer afford the be the very same country as it used to be in past.

My husband went to the CHC on May 13 and they said its closed. The problem is that his visa will expire by July 23, 2012. Does anyone know how long it will take if he mails his passport to Singapore? We're just really nervous about receiving back the passport by mail in Dhaka because its not a reliable method.

When did he submit his passports? IF he hasnt done so, he might as well get an MRP and send SVO photocopies of that. It should take 8 weeks intotal at max to get back passports from svo after sending.
