hello,

I am working under a spousal open work permit. is there a way to request to change it to a closed one?

or at least extend it before the expiration date? I've already extended once for one more year however, I need at least 6 more months to have the chance of getting a Permanent Residency.

Please advsie.

thanks in advance.

You can't change it to a closed permit.

To get a closed permit you need an employer to get an LMIA and support a work permit application.

Thank you for the information.

What about extending my current one? In the CIC website states that we can ask for extension but it’s the officer who decides whether approve or refuse.
Do you think there’s a chance for me with the aforementioned situation?

Thank you. I’ve already read that. I know the requirements for applying for an OWP extension.
just wanted to know what are my chances as a spouse of a student who has already extended his permit once at the time the wife applied for PGWP.
I believe I will be rejected but thought maybe there’s a way.
Thanks in advance.

If your spouse holds a valid PGWP and also has a NOC A, B or 0 role, then you should be able to get your OWP extended until the expiry date of your spouse's PGWP.

I currently have that. Our WPs expiry dates are the same. Meant to extend that since our both WPs are expired.

In that case you don't qualify to extend your OWP unless you meet some other condition to do so or qualify for an OWP of a different kind. For example, if you have submitted an application under Express Entry (e.g. received ITA and then submitted a complete application), then you would qualify to apply for a BOWP.

If you don't meet any of the conditions to extend or apply for a new OWP, then your employer would need to get an approved LMIA in order for you to switch to a closed work permit.

Chances are somewhere between 0 and 100 depending on how much you meet the eligibility criteria.
