Changing marital status after sending all documents after ITA

Hi,

my partner and I will become common-law next month (it will be 12 months since we can prove we've lived and been together). I was invited in the last draw (still as single) and now, I don't know what to do. My partner already has education credentials but we won't be able to get her language test results in the next 60 days so I won't be able to accept ITA as common-law but still as single.

The thing is, that I have 482 points (minimum in my draw was 475) but if I add her without her language test results, it would drop my points below 475. Do you think I can upload all documents as single, and then, after 60 days (60 days tu submit all documents) I can just somehow change my marital status and add her to my application? What should I do? :'(

Do you realize you're asking "Is it OK to lie and cheat to get the ITA"? No one is answering because the answer is no.

If you are in Canada, you could see if your CLP can get the language test results sooner by taking the CELPIP instead of the IELTS... (don't know, just a suggestion).

But just like jes said, be very careful as misrepresentation can be a big deal for refusal.

Hi, I'm not cheating at all. We have been together since December 2015 so we can't be common-law yet (we haven't been living/together for 12 months) and that's why I received ITA as single. I've gotten ITA that I deserve and I'm currently still "single" by the law, now I have until mid December to submit all documents, but in early December, we'll become common-law and we can't get the language results that soon, that's the fact. She's currently in Europe but you are right about CELPIP or IELTS, I'll check that! That's a good idea, thanks though.

OK, so sorry!!! That will remind me to read more carefully :-X. If you can submit your eAPR before your status changes, then yes, by all means, go ahead - you can add your CLP later. Good luck!

Another thought... it wouldn't hurt to include a brief letter of explanation that you do not yet have a CLP but you will soon, and intend to add her when your status changes... Some people do that when they are engaged but not yet married. I don't know if it matters much, but it couldn't hurt.

Btw I called CIC earlier today and they confirmed it - it is possible. It requires some hard-copy documents to be sent to Sydney, Nova Scotia, but there is a way!

Just in case somebody else is in the same situation...
