Changing address and permanent resident card

Hello,

I will be landing in Canada next month. Someone who is somewhat familiar to
me has said that I can provide his address to receive my permanent resident
card.

After landing, I am planning to rent a short term apartment. Is it possible for me
to change address with CIC once an address is given? or would it be considered
somewhat unacceptable.

The idea is to get my permanent resident card on my apartment address. How would
I go about it. Please advise.

Thank you.

As far as I know you can tell the officer that you'll call back with your address as soon as you get one but the sooner you give an address the sooner you'll get your PR card.

You do not have to give an address when you land but they do say it takes 30 days to get the PR card (average) after you provide them with an address. If you don't want your PR card to go to your friends address, then it's best to not give one and wait until you have your own. If you do give your friends address, you can change it with CIC but I do not know if that would delay anything.

Thanks so much for your help. One more question. It's about how to write the address.

Is it OK to say:

MyFirstName LastName
c/o
MyFriends FirstName LastName
101 ....drive
City, rest of address

or just say

MyFirstName LastName
101 ....drive
City, rest of address

I am asking this because friend's address is being used for reciving the card only. It is not
where I will reside.

Please guide me on this!
