Change status from Student to Visitor

I restored my status as a student in September 2015. I did not take the fall semester due to some personal reasons and now I have registered for the Winter 2016 semester.

Now I am having second thoughts and I am considering dropping this semester. If I go ahead and do this I would have to change my status from student to visitor. I am not able to find any information about this forum or otherwise. Please advise how I can go about this.

Good chance you're already out of status in Canada. Study permits automatically become invalid if you stop attending school for more than 90 days. If your study permit was restored in September but you failed to attend school for the fall semester, then it sounds like you would have exceeded the 90 day mark and currently have no status in Canada.
