Hi,

My spouse is included in my application and I selected yes to the question 'have you used any other name' because her surname was different before marriage. Now in my checklist CIC is asking for Legal Name Change document.

What should I provide. Marriage certificate is already included as another checklist item?

The explanation to the checklist item reads as follows:

'You indicated you have another name. You must provide information on the use of this other name (such as a letter of explanation, legal documents of a name change, etc).'

Regards

The system assumes that your spouse has changed their name legally which is not the case here. Upload an LOE highlighting this, attach supporting documents and also provide a notarized declaration that both the names are of the same individual, politely request the officer to consider your case favorably and hope for the best.

Hi gc_007,

I am also in same position as you. I would be grateful to you if you could provide me the sample LoE which you submitted to CIC.

Thanks

Hey there, no LOE needed if your marriage certificate states the previous and the new name. I uploaded my marriage certificate (again) as a proof of name change and there was no problem with that at all.
If your marriage certificate does not state the previous name, then you might need to look for a different solution.
